About the game:
«9 Years of Shadows» is a side-scrolling Metroidvania by Halberd Studios. Travel alongside Europa, a brave warrior who has decided to enter the mechanical giant Talos and stop the corruption spreading within before it engulfs the world in darkness. Fight corrupted creatures, meet charismatic musicians, and uncover the truth about the curse that has stripped the land of all color.
Many have tried to enter the twisted depths of Talos, a lifeless fortress where several civilizations have settled over the centuries. And having lost everything dear to her, Europa can no longer help but attempt what others could not. As a noble warrior refusing to submit to the curse, she must enter the castle, find the source of the corruption, and restore color once and for all.
Europa will not spend this adventure alone. Inside the giant, she will befriend Apino, a cute flying bear who appears to have magical abilities to restore color and health to his allies. He is also able to protect his companions from the many dangers lurking for them in the corridors of Talos.
While exploring the castle, Apino can cleanse Talos of corruption and shoot various projectiles capable of destroying dark crystals and dealing damage:
- A fist that strikes from bottom to top when summoned.
- An explosion that travels along the surface until it collides.
- A cyclone that returns to Apino like a boomerang.
Use the elements to your advantage to move dynamically across the map. Acquire elemental armor, once considered treasures of ancient civilizations, and switch it on the fly, unlocking special abilities to make your way along your path: from swimming through waterfalls to traveling through underground tunnels or gliding in warm air currents.
Use the power of lightning, water, earth, and fire. Surprise bosses by changing armor, performing powerful halberd combos, and using enemy weaknesses to make your way through the heart of shadows.
Music is perhaps the soul of the game. Bring the world to life by listening to the touching soundtrack by Miguel Hasson, as well as soothing 432 Hz compositions by renowned composers Michiru Yamane (Castlevania series) and Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear Solid series). Meet these guest composers as in-game characters who help Europa in her quest throughout the game.
Music is the thread that connects gameplay and narrative: collect musical notes and perform a healing lullaby to restore health.
