According to Ahrefs research, public Facebook groups have become the second most popular source in Google’s «Discussions and forums» search results block. The social network has overtaken Quora and now ranks second only to Reddit.
An analysis of 500 million search queries showed that posts from Facebook appear in 38.3% of cases when Google displays the forums block. For comparison, Quora has dropped to 32%, while Reddit still holds 87.8% of the results. All other Q&A platforms combined do not even reach 10%.
How posts are ranked
Only posts from public groups that can be viewed by users even without registering on the platform appear in search results.
At the same time, search traffic is spread across hundreds of different communities: the ten most popular groups account for only 2.8% of links, while the top one hundred account for 9.3%. In addition, for search result snippets, Google sometimes pulls AI-generated titles that Meta itself creates for posts.
How to get traffic from search results
Facebook’s search positions began growing at the end of 2024, and by January the platform had definitively overtaken Quora.
Creating a new group from scratch just for search traffic does not make much sense right now — it takes a long time and does not guarantee quick visibility. It is easier to find public communities that Google already ranks at the top for the target keywords and redirect the audience through commenting and your own posts within those threads.
