Reddit rolls out Free-Form Ads and Product Tags: live posts turn into e-com storefronts

Reddit has announced two updates for advertisers at once, turning the platform into a full-fledged channel for e-commerce. The platform, with 97 million daily active users, is finally monetizing its main feature — live discussions about products and brands within subreddits.
Free-Form Ads: native creatives without getting banned in the comments
Reddit has launched Free-Form Ads — an AI-powered tool that generates ad creatives styled like the platform's native posts.
This isn't just about a neural network generating text. Free-Form Ads allow advertisers to take real posts from regular users (with their permission) or entire discussion threads from subreddits and turn them into ads. It's essentially a legalized way to run ads on behalf of the community.
What has changed
Reddit is a specific kind of platform. Users hate direct advertising and downvote or ban it in the comments. Free-Form Ads solve this problem: the advertisement looks like a live post from a real person rather than a banner.
The advertiser uploads the product and a brief description. The system either generates a new post or adapts an existing discussion from a subreddit. As a result, the ad looks like organic content — some guy sharing how this thing actually helped, rather than a hard product pitch.
Product Tags: real-time prices in the post
The second update is Product Tags. Now, you can add clickable product cards with real-time prices from the catalog directly into posts. A user sees the post, hovers over the tag, and sees the price and description. Clicking it redirects them to the seller's website via Reddit's built-in browser.
Product tags automatically synchronize with the seller's catalog. If a price changes on the website or an item goes out of stock, the tag on Reddit updates on its own.
What are the benefits
Reddit is finally providing full-fledged tools for sales. Previously, you had to work through third-party services and pre-landers — now everything works natively inside the platform.
For traffic arbitrage, this is now a ready-made scheme for e-commerce. Real community posts turn into ads, product tags lead to the offer with real-time pricing, and conversions increase thanks to the native format. This is particularly interesting for GEOs where Reddit is growing actively: the US, UK, and Canada.
The tool works not only with physical products — Free-Form Ads can also be used for SaaS and digital products.
