Reddit has rolled out two major updates at once. The platform is launching AI moderation for subreddits and gradually restricting some content for users who are not logged in.
The goal of the updates — is to reduce the workload for moderators, simplify post publishing for new users and protect Reddit data from mass collection.
AI Will Review Posts
The main new feature — is Rules Hub. Here, moderators configure filters for reviewing posts. After that, AI independently analyzes new posts and comments and decides what to do with them: publish immediately, send for manual review or temporarily hide them.
Before launch, the filter can be tested in preview mode to see how it will work on real posts. Statistics are available for each filter, making it possible to evaluate how well it works.
According to Reddit, the system has already been tested for several months in hundreds of subreddits. It is now gradually being made available to other communities.
Reddit Restricts Guest Access
At the same time, Reddit continues to restrict access to content.
Some discussions and comments can no longer be viewed without logging in. At the same time, the company is reducing the capabilities of the old version of the website and strengthening protection against automated data collection.
The reason is simple: posts and comments have become some of Reddit’s most valuable assets. The company wants access to this data to be provided through official tools rather than through mass scraping.
What This Means for Affiliate Marketers
If you work with Reddit, it is worth paying attention to several changes.
-
AI moderation. Previously, a person made the decision, but now the initial review is increasingly performed by AI. Therefore, copy-pasted content, template-based posts and obvious spam will be caught by filters faster.
-
Scraping restrictions. Reddit is gradually restricting content for users who are not logged in. Collecting data as before will no longer be possible.
-
Relaxed restrictions for new accounts. Currently, many subreddits do not allow users to publish posts without a certain account age or a minimum amount of karma. Reddit expects AI to handle part of the review process, so it plans to ease such restrictions.
