Buyers are Leaving TikTok Shop for Landing Pages

Buyers Leave TikTok Shop: Why External Landing Pages are Back on Top

Built-in shops in TikTok and Instagram are no longer considered the ideal solution for e-commerce. A fresh report from Quasa Tech Insights revealed a real trend: media buyers are massively shifting traffic from native platforms to external websites. Direct linking to the advertiser is back on top, as control over margins and ROI has proven more important than beautiful statistics inside the platforms.

Why Built-in Shops Cut Into Profit

The main reason is constant bans and unpredictable moderation. TikTok Shop and Instagram tools have pushed webmasters into strict boundaries, where complex integrations take a lot of time, and an account gets banned before even breaking even.

The financial side of the matter also disappointed. Social network commissions for in-app payments began to eat up a significant part of the profit. When the ad auction is already getting more expensive, nobody wants to give an additional percentage to the platform for "convenience." Affiliate marketers calculated the real economics and returned to external landing pages with their own upsells.

What External Landing Pages Offer

Shifting to external links returned independence from the whims of social networks to buyers.

Advantages of working through external pre-landers:

  • Full control over pixels and gathering custom audiences for retargeting.

  • The ability to build custom funnels with pre-landing pages and break through banner blindness.

  • Independence from internal social network payment systems, which regularly glitch.

  • Higher payouts from direct advertisers.

How Team Workflows Have Changed

Large teams have restructured their workflows to fit the new realities. Now optimization goes through custom trackers rather than internal social network metrics — this protects against sudden bans.

How it works:

  • Traffic is driven to pre-landers or warming pages.

  • The TDS on the backend filters out bots and irrelevant GEOs.

  • Campaigns are optimized via Conversion API, bypassing browser pixels.

The approach is more complex for beginners, but it allows consistently maintaining volumes. Advertisers adapted and started offering custom conditions, including API integrations for real-time order submission.
