X has decided to make its algorithms more transparent. The platform updated its open-source code on GitHub and revealed more data about what affects the reach of posts in the «For You» feed.
At the same time, X is testing a tool that will show restrictions on accounts and posts. It will allow users to check which labels their content received over the past month and whether they may have reduced impressions.
How to check restrictions
X uses internal labels for posts and accounts. Some of them affect content distribution: for example, a post may appear less frequently in recommendations and receive fewer impressions.
Previously, it was difficult to identify the reason for such a decline. X is now testing the ability to download a list of labels applied to posts and the account over the past 30 days. If reach drops sharply, users will be able to check whether it is related to restrictions imposed by the platform itself.
There is also a second option. X published the code responsible for post visibility in the «For You» feed on GitHub. The platform suggests using the open-source algorithm code together with your account data in any LLM to determine which factors may have affected reach.

For affiliate marketers and teams managing networks of X accounts, this is especially useful when impressions decline. If posts suddenly stop appearing properly in recommendations, it will be possible to check whether the content received a restrictive label instead of blindly testing creatives, accounts, and other possible causes.
