The X platform is completely shutting down the Creator Revenue Sharing program. Starting September 7, the service will stop paying creators a percentage of ad revenue. Instead, it is introducing the Original Content Rewards system with strict manual approval for each account.
What changed
The monetization rules were rewritten to cut off farms and fake engagement:
-
Payouts for activity in comments were removed. Earnings are credited only for feed views from Premium users. To join, you must have 500 verified followers and 500 000 such impressions over the past 90 days.
-
The requirements for content originality were tightened. Existing participants will not be transferred automatically — they will have to submit a new application. Moderators immediately reject reuploaded videos, rewrites, and AI-generated content.
How to capture this traffic
Thousands of owners of niche pages and small account networks will lose their direct income from the platform overnight. To recoup the cost of running their profiles, they are starting to look for direct advertisers. For media buyers, this is an opportunity to buy traffic cheaply and directly:
-
Cheap placements. Account owners are willing to place third-party links in their profile bios and at the end of viral threads for a minimal price or even for a percentage under the CPA model.
-
Less dependence on Ads Manager. With direct placements, the media buyer negotiates directly with the account owner and can send users through a link in a post, profile, or thread.
-
Real organic traffic. A successful viral thread can continue generating impressions and clicks after publication, unlike paid advertising, where traffic directly depends on the ad budget.
The easiest way to test the combo is with micro-accounts: assemble a pool of 5–10 small creators in the required niche, give them ready-made copy with the offer and a link containing a UTM tag, and then evaluate the final cost per lead.
