Pre-landing page — is an intermediate landing page that a user reaches from an ad before proceeding to the main landing page or checkout page.
The purpose of a pre-landing page — is not to sell the product directly right away, but to interest the user, address initial objections, build trust, and warm up their interest in the offer.
Why a pre-landing page is needed
-
Audience warm-up: helps explain the problem in detail and present a solution through a story, a real review, or an expert opinion. The user proceeds to the main landing page already prepared to make a purchase.
-
Filtering untargeted traffic: filters out random users who are not interested in the offer. This saves budget and increases conversion on the final page.
-
Bypassing bans and moderation (cloaking): in traffic arbitrage, a neutral preland is often used as a «white» page (White Page) to pass checks in traffic sources with strict censorship.
-
Data collection and analytics: a preland can record a click, install tracking pixels, build an audience for retargeting, or run split tests of different marketing angles (increased conversion, discounts, expert authority, etc.).
Popular pre-landing page formats
-
Storytelling article: the story of an ordinary person who struggled with a problem for a long time (excess weight, debt, lack of income) and finally found a solution.
-
Expert interview or blog: designed as a column by a cosmetologist, lawyer, or well-known financial expert recommending a specific method or product.
-
News website: an imitation of an article from a well-known media outlet with a sensational headline, exposé, or news story.
-
Surveys and quizzes: a short questionnaire with 3–5 questions used to select a «personalized solution». At the end of the quiz, the user receives a discount and a button leading to the landing page.
-
Wheels of fortune / interactive elements: mini-games offering a chance to receive a personalized discount or free shipping.
Where it is used
Prelands are widely used in nutra, crypto and finance, gambling, dating, and the info business. In traditional e-commerce, pre-landing pages are often used as expert selections, rankings, or «Top 10 Best Products» reviews.
Pre-landing page and landing page: what is the difference
-
Pre-landing page is responsible for emotions, engagement, and creating demand. There is no order form or payment data entry here — only a button or link to proceed further.
-
Landing page is responsible for the sale: it displays the final price, delivery options, a promotional timer, and contains an application form or shopping cart.
What is important to know
In traffic arbitrage, a pre-landing page + landing page combo is often used on the same domain, or they are even combined into one long hybrid landing page with a built-in order form at the bottom of the page. This reduces traffic loss at the intermediate click.
