Smartlink

Smartlink — is a single link that automatically redirects a user to an offer that is suitable for them. Instead of manually setting up a separate link for each country, device, or operating system, a webmaster sends the entire traffic flow to one URL, and the system itself distributes users to the appropriate offers.

In traffic arbitrage, a smartlink works as an automatic traffic distributor. It combines dozens or hundreds of different affiliate offers. A special algorithm reads the data of the person who clicked the link in a fraction of a second and sends them to the offer where the probability of getting a target action is the highest.

What parameters does the system use to evaluate a user

When a person clicks a smartlink, the algorithm determines their characteristics within seconds:

  • Country, region, and city;

  • Device type: smartphone, tablet, or computer;

  • Operating system (iOS, Android, Windows) and browser version;

  • Internet connection type: home Wi-Fi or a specific mobile operator;

  • System language.

When a smartlink is used

  • Mixed traffic from different countries. If the audience comes from all over the world (for example, from international social networks, Telegram channels, or websites), the smartlink will automatically show a German offer to a user from Germany and a Brazilian offer to a user from Brazil.

  • Working without a tracker. Beginners do not need to buy and configure complex third-party traffic distribution services — the affiliate network takes care of this task.

  • Monetizing residual traffic (TrafficBack). Users who do not meet the conditions of a specific main offer can be automatically redirected to a smartlink so that clicks are not wasted.

Pros and cons

  • Saving time and effort. There is no need to manually test dozens of offers separately, monitor whether a specific advertiser has been disabled, or constantly change links in ads.

  • Quick start. It is enough to get one link from the affiliate program and immediately launch advertising.

  • No full control. The webmaster does not choose a specific landing page and exact conditions for each click — the entire process is managed by the affiliate program's internal algorithm.

  • It is harder to create a precise creative. When offers constantly change within the link, it is difficult to show a specific product in an ad — more general advertising materials have to be used.

Where smartlinks are used most often: This tool is especially popular in dating, sweepstakes, adult, and mobile apps, where traffic often comes in a broad flow without being strictly tied to a specific brand or product.
