Microsoft is building a unified Copilot

End of chaos: Microsoft unifies all Copilots into one super-app

The company Microsoft has started developing a unified application that combines all of the company's existing AI services. The project's goal is to completely eliminate confusion and release one universal Copilot. The new head of the AI division, Jacob Andreou, is responsible for the technical implementation and merging of the tools.

The problem is that Microsoft overcomplicated its marketing and churned out too many Copilots: there is the regular Copilot for everyday users, the work-oriented Microsoft 365 Copilot, the GitHub Copilot tool for programmers, and a bunch of built-in panels in Word and Excel. All of this is scattered, confuses users, and frustrates even the company's own employees.

Microsoft unifies all Copilots into one super-app-1

At an internal meeting, the head of Microsoft was asked a question: how are people supposed to navigate this chaos? Out of 450 million Microsoft 365 users, less than 4.5% buy a paid AI subscription. It became obvious that it was time to solve the problem.

What will be inside the application

The new software will become a single point of entry and will connect four areas:

  1. Copilot Chat — a standard text chatbot companion.

  2. GitHub Copilot — a smart assistant for fast code writing.

  3. Copilot Cowork — a module for teamwork and project management.

  4. Autopilot — a next-generation autonomous AI agent. Scout will not just answer questions, but execute tasks in the background.

To quickly separate work and personal tasks, a toggle switch will be built into the interface. They plan to roll out the new application by the end of summer 2026, and the main features and interface will be shown at the upcoming Build conference.
