API (Application Programming Interface)

API — is a way for different programs to communicate with each other, allowing them to exchange data and commands.

Simply put, an API — is an intermediary between different programs. One program sends a request through the API, while another receives it and returns the required data or performs an action.

Why API is needed in traffic arbitrage

In traffic arbitrage, manual work takes too much time, so automation through APIs is essential:

  • Data transfer: when a customer fills out a form on a landing page, the API instantly sends this application to a tracker or affiliate network so the webmaster can immediately see real-time statistics.

  • Mass advertising management: using advertising account APIs, third-party software creates campaigns, changes budgets and exports analytics in just a few clicks, eliminating routine work in each individual account.

  • Connecting services: through an API, you can automatically export spending statistics from advertising networks directly into accounting spreadsheets or trackers to calculate net profit (ROI).

How it works on a technical level

For a third-party program to connect to an advertising platform or affiliate network, a special digital address and access permissions are used. The main element here — is an API token (access key). This is a unique set of characters that the program sends together with the request to confirm its authorization. Without this key, the platform simply will not respond to the request and will protect the data from unauthorized access.
