IP rotation

IP rotation — is the automatic or forced change of a device’s IP address at certain time intervals or on request.

When an affiliate marketer works with dozens of accounts in advertising networks, security systems closely monitor where the user logs in from. If different profiles are constantly authorized from the same IP address, the platform will quickly detect this and block them for multi-accounting. To prevent this from happening, a rotating proxy is configured for each profile.

How rotation works in practice

  • By timer (automatically): the IP address changes automatically every few minutes or hours (for example, every 10 minutes).

  • Via a special link (manually): together with the proxy credentials (login and password), the user receives a special web link. If they click it or configure it to launch automatically before opening the browser, the modem on the proxy server side instantly reconnects to the cell tower, and the IP address changes at that very moment.

In traffic arbitrage, mobile proxies with rotation are used most often. Mobile operators use dynamic IPs: for ordinary smartphone users, the address constantly changes when the phone reconnects to cell towers. Advertising platforms are used to this and treat mobile IPs much more leniently than server IPs. Therefore, changing IPs through mobile proxies helps disguise an affiliate marketer’s activity as the behavior of real users.
